About Newborn Care Specialists

About this Site

Newborn Care Specialists is an informational resource for people entering the newborn care profession, and families seeking qualified overnight newborn care. The site is maintained by Let Mommy Sleep, the nationally operating newborn care network founded in Washington DC in 2010.

Who We Are

Let Mommy Sleep has supported more than 100,000 families across the United States since 2010 through a network of locally owned and operated newborn care businesses. The team includes Registered Nurses, Licensed Practical Nurses, certified Night Doulas, and Newborn Care Providers operating across 26 territories nationwide.

At Let Mommy Sleep, Registered Nurses and certified newborn care specialists work as a coordinated team. During the first week home from the hospital — the highest-risk period of the postpartum experience — a Registered Nurse provides in-home postpartum check-ups, newborn wellness assessments, teaching and breastfeeding support. This 1 hour visit bridges the gap between hospital discharge and the first OB/GYN appointment, 6 weeks after birth. Families then transition to ongoing overnight care with a NAPS-certified newborn care specialist, with the RN and caregiver staying in contact throughout.

Let Mommy Sleep founder Denise Iacona Stern is the author of The State of Newborn Care, a workforce policy paper published on SSRN in 2026 documenting the absence of national standards in the in-home newborn care industry and the case for meaningful credentialing. Read the paper on SSRN.

The Standard Behind This Resource

Every caregiver featured through this site has completed the Newborn Care and Postpartum Support (NAPS) Night Doula Certificate, the evidence-based credential administered by Newborn Care Certified, the educational division of Let Mommy Sleep. The NAPS curriculum was awarded a U.S. government contract from 2015 to 2021 and has been used by professional organizations, pediatricians and nanny agencies.

All caregivers in the Let Mommy Sleep network complete evidence-based newborn and postpartum care certification, infant safe sleep training aligned with AAP guidelines, current vaccinations including pertussis, and background screening. These are non-negotiable requirements across all 26 territories.

NAPS courses are available in English and Spanish, ensuring the certification is accessible to the full diversity of caregivers entering the profession.
